CHESTER — Authorities are investigating a fatal shooting in the city’s West End Thursday.

According to city police Capt. Anita Amaro, officers were dispatched to the rear of the 3000 block of West Second Street for “a shooting with a victim down,” shortly after 4 p.m.

The victim, a 23-year-old black male, was pronounced dead by paramedics at the scene on Mary Street, an alley between Harwick and Booth streets. He suffered multiple gunshot wounds, she said.

While official cause and manner of death are pending an examination by the Delaware County Medical Examiner’s office, the investigation is being handled as a homicide. Police Chief Darren Alston said investigators had very little information to go on.

“There is no motive, no suspects. This is a very active investigation,” Alston said.

Anyone with information is asked to contact city Detective Joseph McFate at 610- 447-8428 or county Detective Michael Jay at 610-891-4700.
