A Brentwood man under investigation for a bank robbery in Moon was arrested Sunday night after a lengthy standoff with police during which he stabbed himself.

Christopher Lyons, 31, faces a firearms charge for possessing a gun as a convicted felon. He has not been charged in the bank robbery.

Moon police said the Citizens Bank at the Giant Eagle on University Boulevard was robbed at around 12:15 p.m. Sunday. Witnesses outside the store reported seeing a black Cadillac Escalade drive away. The vehicle was traced back to Mr. Lyon's home on Beisner Street home in Brentwood. Police later obtained a search warrant.

At 6:40 p.m., members of the Critical Incident Response Team entered the home on Beisner Street and found Mr. Lyons with a gun and a knife. He had stabbed himself in the neck, wrist and leg and refused to drop the weapons. After deploying tear gas and negotiating with Mr. Lyons, he surrendered.

He was taken to UPMC Mercy, where he underwent surgery for the neck wound.

Police said Mr. Lyons was on probation for a criminal conviction in federal court. Court records show Mr. Lyons was sentenced by a federal judge to 87 months in prison and three years of probation following a previous bank robbery conviction. He was released in December 2008.
