A man remains hospitalized today after he was shot multiple times while attempting a home invasion in Wilkinsburg on Monday night.
Police said the wounded man, Jabar Owens, 18, of Penn Hills, and Jeremy Whittington, 22, of Wilkinsburg, tried to barge into a home in the 1000 block of Montier Street shortly before 10 p.m.
Inside were a man, a woman and two young children, Lt. Andrew Schurman of the Allegheny County police homicide unit said.
Preliminary reports indicated that the man shot Mr. Owens in the torso on the front porch. He was taken to a local hospital, where he immediately went into surgery.
Police said they recovered a sawed-off shotgun he had brought with him during the robbery attempt, prompting police to fire a weapons charge against him.
Mr. Whittington, who fled but surrendered to police this afternoon, and Mr. Owens were also charged with robbery and conspiracy.
Police detained the man who fired at the intruders and hoped to question him at the county police headquarters, Lt. Schurman said. The Allegheny County district attorney's office will determine what charges, if any, he might face.
None of the home's occupants was injured, the lieutenant said.
