Pittsburgh homicide detectives today are investigating the deadly Tuesday night shooting of a man in the city's Lincoln-Lemington neighborhood.

Police said James Johnson, 29, of Homewood, was a customer at the New Jug bar in the 1500 block of Lincoln Avenue just before 11 p.m. when he got into the driver's seat of his parked car and was shot multiple times.

The gunman fired from a semi-automatic rifle and fled.

Bar patrons unsuccessfully tried to give Mr. Johnson CPR before paramedics arrived and pronounced him dead at the scene.

Police would not speculate on a motive. But East End officers were familiar with Mr. Johnson

Mr. Johnson's trial in the 2006 killing of Kenneth Alford Jr., 27, ended in a hung jury. Prosecutors had said that Mr. Johnson shot Mr. Alford in the neck as he descended steps leading to Paulson Playground in Lincoln-Lemington.

Detectives urged anyone with information on Mr. Johnson's slaying to call the city's homicide squad at 412-323-7161.
