A Washington man is being treated at a Pittsburgh hospital after he was shot in the face early Thursday in Lincoln Terrace.
But Washington police said the shooting victim, Akili Sutton, 32, of Linn Avenue, has not given them much information about what happened. He did tell one of the responding officers the shooter was his cousin.
City police Detective Sgt. Chris Luppino said reports of shots fired were called into the 911 center about 3 a.m.
"We had a report of shots being fired and then got a call from a resident in the 300 block of Lincoln Terrace that someone was trying to break into their home," Luppino said. "He was shot in the 200 block and had gone to the 300 block of Lincoln Terrace, where he went to the back door of one of the homes."
City police said a live round was found in front of 259 Lincoln Terrace with a trail of blood leading to 361 Lincoln Terrace.
"We have no witnesses or suspects," he added.
City police detectives are reviewing surveillance tapes from cameras in the housing project.
Luppino said police hope to talk with Sutton at a later date. His injuries are not considered life-threatening. Police are not certain whether he had to undergo surgery. The shot was fired from a large-caliber gun and he was hit on the side of his face, Luppino said.
Sutton recently served a 15- to 30-month prison sentence stemming from an New Year's Day 2010 incident at the former Patt's Tavern, 250 Latimer Ave., Strabane.
His family and the NAACP Washington branch claimed excessive force was used by police during the arrest after officers used pepper spray and a Taser to subdue Sutton. He received treatment in a Pittsburgh hospital after his arrest and was in an induced coma.
Sutton pleaded guilty in September 2010 to resisting arrest. Charges of aggravated assault, false identification, disorderly conduct and public drunkenness were dismissed in exchange for the plea.
Anyone with information on Thursday's shooting is asked to call Luppino at 724-223-4224
