Allegheny County homicide detectives are investigating a deadly drive-by shooting Tuesday night in North Braddock.

Rontez Durham, 26, of Stokes Avenue in North Braddock, was standing on a porch near the intersection of Stokes Avenue and Fourth Street when he was shot, police said. His friends attempted to drive him to the hospital, but were stopped by police who were responding to a report of shots fired and saw them speeding away.

He was pronounced dead in the backseat of the car by paramedics at 10:52 p.m.

Allegheny County police Lt. Andrew Schurman said Mr. Durham was one of at least four people standing on the front porch when a car drove by. Someone inside the car swapped bullets with someone on the porch, though it's unclear who fired first, Lt. Schurman said.

More than 20 rounds were fired between the two, he said.

The car was described by witnesses as a white Toyota Camry with tinted windows and out-of-state plates, possibly from Virginia. It may have bullet holes in it, Lt. Schurman said.

He urged anyone with information to call the homicide squad at 412-473-1300.
