NORTH BRADDOCK: One dead in shooting

Allegheny County homicide detectives are investigating a deadly drive-by shooting Tuesday night in North Braddock.

The Allegheny County Medical Examiner's office identified the man as Rontez Durham, 26, of Stokes Avenue in North Braddock. Paramedics at the scene pronounced him dead at 10:52 p.m.

Police said he was shot on a porch near the intersection of Stokes Avenue and Fourth Street after "numerous rounds" were fired from a vehicle, possibly a white Toyota Camry, Lt. Andrew Schurman wrote in a news release.

The man's friends put him into their own vehicle and were trying to get him to a hospital when police stopped the car and found him in the backseat, suffering from gunshot wounds to the chest. The officers had been called to the area just before 11 p.m. for reports of shots fired.

Witnesses described the gunman's vehicle as having tinted windows and out-of-state license plates, possibly from Virginia, the lieutenant said.
