Derrick Brown, 32, was shot in the chest and died shortly before midnight, the Allegheny County Medical Examiner's office said this morning. Police responded to a park on Strauss Street in Perry South and found Brown. They called for backup to control a gathering crowd in the park.
Emergency responders took Brown to Allegheny General Hospital in the North Side. An autopsy is scheduled for today.
Another call came in from an apartment in the same block at 9:50 p.m. for a man who was unconscious and bleeding from the head. Dispatchers said he told officers his injuries were sustained in a fall in the nearby park, unrelated to the shooting.
