A man was shot in the thigh in an alley near Second and Hudson streets late Saturday, according to Reading police.
The victim, whose name was not available, was taken to Reading Hospital. His condition could not be determined.
Police responded to the neighborhood about 11 p.m. after neighbors called to report a shooting.
They found the victim outside a house in the 100 block of Hudson Street. He told them he was walking in the alley, heard gunshots but did not see anything.
Neighbors said there was a large crowd in the alley when gunfire erupted. Everyone fled before police arrived.
Police said neighbors reported hearing about a dozen gunshots. Officers found a number of shell casings in the alley, which runs parallel to Hudson Street.
They searched the dark alley with flashlights. They also performed an initial canvass of the neighborhood, but did not find any witnesses.
Police said the victim may know who shot him.
The gunman fled in a car before police arrived.
An investigation continues.
