Earlier report

A York man who police say was in the wrong place at the wrong time was killed early Saturday morning when a stray bullet struck him in the head.

Jerry Correa, 33, of the 300 block of Lindberg Avenue, was shot while riding in a car in the 200 block of Walnut Street at about 3:10 a.m.

The driver started for York Hospital, but flagged down a police officer for help on the way. Correa was pronounced dead at York Hospital, according to the York County Coroner's office.

"As far as we know, there were two group of people shooting back and forth and he caught a stray bullet," Correa's brother, Moses, said. "He was just in the wrong place at the wrong time."

City Police Lt. Tim Utley said the investigation shows that appears to be the case.

"He doesn't appear to have been involved in what was going on," Utley said. "He just got caught in the crossfire."

Utley said detectives were following several leads and interviewing a number of witnesses, and hoped to make an arrest quickly.
