A pizza delivery man got more than he bargained for after police say he was greeted at the door of a Carlisle home with a gun on Wednesday.

Carlisle police say the 47-year-old delivery driver called them after he had a gun pointed at him while attempting to deliver pizzas to a home in the first block of B Street.

According to police, a 24-year-old Carlisle man answered the door and pointed a gun at the driver. Once he realized the man was a pizza delivery person, he apologized and got his girlfriend, who then paid for the food, police said.

When police went to talk to the man, he said that normally deliveries are taken to the front door and when the driver came to the side door, his dogs became riled up, according to police. He also stated that he forgot that food had been ordered, so when he heard the knock on the door, he grabbed the gun, police said.

Police seized the firearm and the Carlisle man is being sent a criminal summons to appear in court on charges of simple assault by physical menace and disorderly conduct.
