A man with a handgun robbed the Metro Bank on East Lancaster Avenue in Cumru Township on Monday and fled with an undisclosed amount of money, police said.

No one was injured in the holdup, which happened at 3:45 p.m. at the bank in the Shillington Shopping Center, investigators said.

Police gave this account:

The robber entered the bank, pointed a handgun at the tellers and demanded money. He handed a teller a plastic bag and told her to put the cash in it.

She complied, and the robber ran out and headed toward the Giant supermarket, where he got into a dark green Honda car with a sunroof.

He was described as Latino, in his 20s, between 5 feet 6 and 5 feet 8 inches tall with a thin build. He has dark skin and a mustache and was wearing baggie blue jeans, a light color hooded sweatshirt and black shoes. He had a white towel over his head and used a chrome handgun.

Cumru police asked anyone with information to call Detective Robert Wanner at 610-777-9595.
