City police are investigating the late afternoon shooting of a 23-year-old man in South Scranton.
The victim, Darren Young of 1401 Prospect Ave., was transported to Geisinger Community Medical Center, Scranton police Sgt. Mike Mayer said.
Police were called to the 1400 block of Prospect Avenue at 4:50 p.m. when a caller reported a man had been shot, according to the Lackawanna County Emergency Communications Center. When they arrived they found Mr. Young with two gunshot wounds, one in the abdomen and the other in his right arm, Sgt. Mayer said.
Mr. Young told police that he was walking home from a friend's house on South Webster Avenue when he was shot. "Out of nowhere, he heard gunshots and was hit. When he realized he was shot, he ran home. He's saying he didn't see anybody" do the shooting, Sgt. Mayer said.
The distance from where Mr. Young said he was shot and his home is around five blocks. Another person at Mr. Young's residence placed the 911 call, Sgt. Mayer said.
Mr. Young was in stable condition Sunday night, according to police.
