DARBY TWP: Man shot five times, survives

DARBY TOWNSHIP – A township man was shot five times late Tuesday night on Clifton Avenue, according to police.

Darby Township police responded to a report of a person shot in the 1400 block of Clifton Avenue at 10:37 p.m. Tuesday. Police found the 20-year-old victim, Malique Spain, a resident of that street, had been shot five times.

Spain was transported to the University of Pennsylvania Hospital in Philadelphia where he is listed in guarded condition after surgery, police said Wednesday afternoon.

Darby Township detectives have determined that a burgundy Dodge Intrepid and white Jeep Cherokee were seen leaving the area after the shooting. The vehicles reportedly traveled south on Clifton Avenue toward Tribbett Avenue, police said.

The incident remains under investigation by township detectives.
