A 14-year-old Lebanon boy accidentally shot in the neck by another teen-ager is recovering at Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, police said.

They said that the victim, whom they declined to identify, was shot shortly before 3:30 p.m. Saturday by a 16-year-old male in the shooters home in the 100 block of Lehman Street.

The 16 year-old told police he found a .45 caliber pistol earlier in the day buried in mulch a few blocks from his home. He said he was showing it to four boys in his living room when it accidentally discharged and a bullet hit the victim in the neck.

Police initially were called to Second and Lehman streets for a gunshot victim, but found only blood on the porch of the shooters home. Witnesses told them that several young men, one bleeding from the neck, ran from the home, got in a vehicle and drove off.

Police then responded to Good Samaritan Hospital for a 14-year-old gunshot victim, who first said he was in an alley behind Lehman Street when a passenger in a blue Honda shot him.

After the investigation showed that the shooting occurred inside the living room, the 16-year-old told police what happened and the other boys confirmed the account, police said.

The victim was taken to Hershey Medical Center for further treatment of what police call non life threatening injuries. The pistol, registered to a Lebanon resident, had not been reported as stolen.

Charges are pending against the 16-year-old with the pistol, police said.

Anyone with any information is asked to call police at 717-272-6611.
