A Duquesne man who was shot outside of a home on Craig Street in McKeesport early this morning has died.
The Allegheny County medical examiner's office said Chauncey Williams, 18, died of an apparent gunshot wound, though as of this morning it had not yet conducted an autopsy.
Police reports indicate Mr. Williams was shot about 4:30 a.m. and taken to Allegheny General Hospital, where he died. Allegheny County homicide detectives were investigating.
Mr. Williams was a running back on the East Allegheny High School football team this past fall, where he had an outstanding senior season as "a solid back," said his coach, Dennis Edwards. One of the highlights of his season was the Sept. 30 game against Yough in which Mr. Williams scored three touchdowns and rushed for 193 yards.
"Chauncey was a good-hearted kid," Mr. Edwards said. He declined further comment citing a district policy that requires comments to come from the district's central administration.
