Police have identified the victim of a second shooting in McKees Rocks today as 21-year-old Kalief Gates.
Emergency dispatchers received a call at 3:14 p.m. for a report that someone had been shot in the 400 block of Alexander Street.
McKees Rocks police Chief Robert Cifrulak said a man admitted to shooting Mr. Gates, of Pittsburgh, in self-defense because he had intruded into his home.
Mr. Gates was found dead with two gunshot wounds to the head and one to the chest inside a bedroom in the man's apartment.
It was too early this afternoon to tell whether there was truth behind that story, the chief said, adding it was "not readily apparent" whether Mr. Gates had a weapon.
This morning, McKees Rocks police and Allegheny County homicide detectives began investigating the shooting death of a man near the intersection of Vine and Rosamond streets.
Police were called to the area about 6:20 a.m. after a neighbor found Javon Riley, 19, of McKees Rocks, lying on the street with a gunshot wound to the head.
Police do not believe the shootings were related.
