A robber armed with a gun walked into a Washington pharmacy early Tuesday and stole narcotic painkillers.
This is the second time CVS Pharmacy, 125 W. Beau St., Jefferson Court Plaza, has been robbed during the early morning hours in the last six weeks and the third time in just more than two months. During Tuesday’s robbery, police said approximately 2,000 Oxycontin pills were stolen.
Washington police Detective Sgt. Chris Luppino said the value on the street for the pills is $1 a milligram.
“A 30-mg pill would sell for $30,” Luppino said. “The street value would depend on the strength of the pills that were stolen.”
The robber entered the store about 4:24 a.m. and went directly to the pharmacy counter, which operates around the clock. He passed a note asking for the drugs and then lifted his shirt to reveal the handle of what appeared to be a black, semiautomatic handgun.
He also reportedly told the pharmacist, “I have a gun, don’t hit any alarms. I have a 9mm.”
The only people in the store were employees, along with a security guard. The robber was gone before the guard realized it, Luppino said. The detective said store management also may want to reconsider keeping the pharmacy open 24 hours a day.
“Most definitely there is a concern someone could get hurt,” Luppino said.
The robber is described as white, in his early 20s, 6 feet tall and weighing 160 pounds. He wore glasses, a checkered shirt, jeans and a green hooded shirt. He also has a patchy beard.
Luppino said the robber used the same method of operation as in the previous two robberies. The detective investigating the May 4 and June 13 robberies said that the description of the robber in those two incidents was similar.
