HAZLETON: Man shot several times

A 25-year-old man was shot several times late Thursday night near North Locust and West 11th streets in Hazleton, city police said.

Police did not identify the man but said he initially was transported to Hazleton General Hospital and subsequently transferred to Lehigh Valley Hospital.

Neighbors hears six shots at approximately 10:45 p.m., according to reports from the scene. The victim was taken to the hospital in a minivan before police arrived.

Police blocked North Locust Street between 11th and 12th streets for several hours while they investigated. Officers used flashlights to search the west side of the block where the shooting took place as well as the parking lot of Immanuel Christian School across the street.

Police ask anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has information to call them. All replies are confidential.
