NORTHUMBERLAND — An unidentified 8-year-old Point Township boy was shot Sunday, but police aren’t saying by whom or how badly the boy was hurt.

The boy was driven to Geisinger Medical Center in Danville by his father, whom police did not identify. Township police said they were notified by Geisinger of the shooting about noon.

The investigation is ongoing and indications are that the shooting was accidental, police said.

The boy’s family has been cooperating with police.

Chief Joshua VanKirk did not give an address of the boy’s family or say where the shooting occurred. He said no one is in custody at the moment and the weapon involved has been recovered.

Northumberland County District Attorney Anthony Rosini was contacted by police following the shooting.

The prosecutor said he was on a trip to Philadelphia and did not have all the information pertaining to the investigation.
