An 18-year-old man died after he and another man tried to rob a marijuana grower in his Port Vue home late Thursday night, touching off a shootout, Allegheny County police said this morning.
The man, whose name authorities have not released, and a 24-year-old man went to a home in the 700 block of Liberty Way about 11:30 p.m. and tried to enter. One of them had a gun. The 62-year-old homeowner also was armed with a handgun and "a physical altercation was followed by an exchange of gunfire," Lt. Andrew Schurman wrote in a news release.
The 24-year-old was stuck in the arm, and the homeowner suffered a graze wound to the head and was treated and released from a hospital. Lt. Schurman did not identify the homeowner, but said he will be charged in connection to the marijuana growing operation, which remains under probe by county narcotics detectives.
The 24-year-old will be charged with crimes stemming from the robbery.
