York, PA - Police have arrested and charged a Manchester Township man for allegedly shooting a woman in the jaw.
Around 1 a.m. this morning, York City Police responded to a call in the 200 block of Union Street for a shooting, according to a news release. Alejandra Vazquez, 22, of the same address, told police she had been shot by Shan William Mehaffie, 23, of the 100 block of Heidelberg Avenue, during an argument, said Lt. Tim Utley of the York City Police. The pair have a child together, he said.
During the argument, Mehaffie allegedly put a .22 caliber Deringer two shot to Vazquez's head, Utley said. Vazquez turned her head as he pulled the trigger, and she was struck in the right jaw, he said.
Vazquez was able to give police a description of Mehaffie's vehicle to police, and she was transported to York Hospital. She was treated and released, a hospital spokesman said.
"She's very lucky," Utley said.
About 30 minutes after the initial call, police located Mehaffie's red vehicle in the rear of a building in the 500 block of North George Street in North York, Utley said. Mehaffie was found on foot in the area of Albright Avenue and Second Avenue, he said.
Officers observed Mehaffie throw a small silver fun from his pocket that they believe was the weapon used in the shooting, Utley said.
Mehaffie has been charged with attempted homicide, aggravated assault, simple assault, reckless endangering, firearms not to be carried without a license and illegal possession of a weapon, Utley said.
He was taken to York County Central Booking and is awaiting arraignment.
Northern York County Regional Police, West Manchester Township Police and a canine unit from Springettsbury Township Police Department assisted with the arrest.
