A man who police say shot and badly wounded his aunt in Harrowgate Wednesday night was fatally shot by police responding to the shooting, after authorities say he leveled his gun at officers.

Police were called to Braddock Street near Schiller at 7:39 p.m. and found the man's aunt, 36, lying on the sidewalk in front of a house bleeding heavily from several gunshot wounds to the torso. As police and medics were helping the woman, witnesses on the block pointed to the house and said her nephew, who allegedly shot her, was inside, Chief Inspector Scott Small said.

The man then came to the door of the house and leveled his gun at police, Small said. Cops ordered him several times to drop the weapon, but he did not comply, prompting three officers to open fire on him, wounding him at least once through the arm and into the torso.

“This guy's within feet of officers, and he decides to point his gun at police,” Small said.
