WILKES-BARRE - A man was seriously wounded and in critical condition Thursday night after a shooting at the Sherman Hills apartment complex, authorities said.

The shooting happened around 6:30 p.m., outside a two-story building of townhouse apartments across from an eight-story tower at the center of the complex.

Wilkes-Barre police Sgt. Jim Sheridan said there were multiple gunshots and the man was shot in the leg.

No suspects were in custody as of 10:15 p.m. Thursday and the investigation is ongoing, Luzerne County District Attorney Stefanie Salavantis said.

"This is still very preliminary, still very new," Salavantis said after a briefing from investigators.

Emily Evelock, 20, identified the victim as her boyfriend, Nygee Taylor, 23, of Wilkes-Barre. Evelock remained at the complex after the shooting, appearing distraught as paramedics took Taylor to Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center in Plains Township.

A hospital spokesman said Taylor was in critical condition late Thursday night.
