Take a Stand Against Gun Violence
WHEREAS: More than 1,200 Pennsylvanians are killed with a gun each year; and
WHEREAS: 29 police officers have been shot and killed in the line of duty in Pennsylvania since 2000; and
WHEREAS: Most gun crimes are committed by people using handguns they stole or purchased illegally; and
WHEREAS: Despite the tragic impact of gun violence on our communities, many elected officials have refused to make efforts to reduce gun violence a priority;
WHEREAS: I am adding my name to the growing movement of people in my community and across Pennsylvania who are taking a stand against gun violence.
I PLEDGE: To follow all existing gun laws and to encourage people I know to do the same; to support efforts to help law enforcement identify and punish criminals who use and traffic handguns illegally; and to call on my elected officials to make gun violence prevention a priority.
