Comedian Amy Schumer is speaking out against gun violence. Last month, during a screening of Schumer’s film Trainwreck, John Russell Houser shot and killed three people before turning his gun on himself. On Monday, Schumer joined her cousin, New York Senator Chuck Schumer, in unveiling a new initiative to address gun violence.
“Unless something is done and done soon, dangerous people will continue to get their hands on guns,” she said. “We need a background check system without holes and fatal flaws.”
The three-part legislative plan aims to reward states that provide thorough background check information and penalize states that fail to do so.
