In Howard County, Maryland, local police and federal agents are looking for evidence at the gun shop where Darion Aguilar legally purchased the weapon he used to kill two people during Saturday’s Columbia Mall shooting.
According to authorities, Aguilar bought a Mossberg 500 12-gauge shotgun, which is capable of being dismantled into small, easy-to-carry pieces.
The United Gun Shop in Rockville stated Aguilar did not raise any red flags when he made the purchase. So far, authorities have made no connection between Aguilar and his victims, Brianna Benlolo and Tyler Johnson, and are still searching for a motive.
Gun control advocates are praising Maryland’s new gun control legislation, which made assault-style weapons illegal. Without the new law, they said, Aguilar could have killed many more people if he had been able to obtain an assault rifle.
