It’s time. It’s time for our representatives in Harrisburg to go on the record and let Pennsylvania know if they will stand up for background checks. The chance could come as early as Monday, but you need to tell them that it’s time to stand up.
On Monday, the House is scheduled to vote on several gun bills. The voting schedule includes HB 1243, which is a good bill that requires that PA share its mental health records with the National Background Check System. What’s even better, though, is that an amendment has been offered that would add to this bill the very thing we’ve been working for — expanded background checks in PA. That’s right, Amendment A06142 would change 1243 to expand background checks to cover the private sale of long guns. Please tell your representatives that now is the time: they need to stand up for Pennsylvania by voting for A06142 to become part of 1243.
Also on the voting schedule is the dangerous HB 2011, the bill to let gun owners and the gun lobby sue towns that take steps to protect their communities. Please tell your reps that you want them to stand up for Pennsylvania and vote no on 2011.
This is the time. This is the moment where our elected officials have a choice. Let them know you are counting on them to do the right thing.
