In the aftermath of Thursday’s shooting at Florida State University, which left several injured and the gunman dead, The New York Daily News‘s Mike Lupica remarks that America’s school shooting season never seems to end, and that not enough people want to discuss the fact that this is more than just a mental health issue.

“Once again you will hear that this isn’t about the gun in May’s hand, or guns at all, that this is only about mental illness,” Lupica writes. “But every time you hear that, both from sensible gun owners and the gun nuts from the National Rifle Association, you want to ask them if this is only a crisis of mental health, how come other civilized countries don’t have gun violence killing 86 people a day the way it does in this country?”
