Senior Judge John C. Uhler of York County was initially assigned to hear the cases of Maurice Connor and Jared Engleman after every Berks County judge recused themselves, citing involvement with Pagerly’s funeral and fundraisers for his family.

Maurice Connor, father of Pagerly’s murderer Matthew Connor, stands trial for illegally transferring a pistol to his son as well as providing him with $200 to buy a rifle. Engleman stands trial for selling Matthew Connor the AK-47 used to kill Pagerly.

After determining that neither defendant could receive an impartial trial in Berks County, Uhler declared a mistrial for both cases. The proceedings will commence once a location that can provide a fair trial for both men is decided upon.
