Colorado Senate President John Morse and Senator Angela Giron have been ousted over their support for stricter gun laws, after a recall election was held Tuesday.

The two senators are the first lawmakers in Colorado history to have been successfully recalled. The election rose as a response to several laws recently passed that limited magazine capacity and required background checks for the private sale of guns – legislation that Sen. Morse in particular was heavily involved in passing.

“We made Colorado safer from gun violence,” Morse said after his concession. “If it cost me my political career, that’s a small price to pay.”

We are disappointed that Senators Moore and Giron will no longer be able to serve simply because they used their offices as legislators should – to improve the lives of their constituents and make their state better.
