Yesterday our nation was stunned by another horrible and senseless tragedy at the Navy Yard in Washington, D.C. Our thoughts are with the victims, the families, the heroes and everyone in Washington, D.C.
It’s hard to find words to console the victims and families, to explain evil to our children, to offer comfort to those who are scared and to take the next steps to change things.
It may sound silly, but we think Dr. Seuss said it simply and best in his book The Lorax.
“Unless someone like you
cares a whole awful lot,
nothing is going to get better.
We can’t just be passionate about gun violence prevention in the days immediately following these tragedies. We have to work everyday to reduce gun violence. Keep Dr. Seuss’ words in mind as you process this tragic loss of life, whether it’s talking to your children, working for better mental health care, advocating for stronger gun violence prevention laws or reflecting with your faith leaders. We all must continue to care a whole awful lot.
