Position Overview
Firearm suicide is the leading form of gun death in Pennsylvania—and it affects rural communities like the Poconos especially hard. Yet it is often kept in silence. Many families are hurting, and most people are unsure how to talk about it. CeaseFirePA is working to change that by breaking the silence around firearm suicide and equipping trusted community members with tools to lead prevention efforts close to home. This role is part of that strategy.
As a Regional Organizer, you’ll work with our Director of Firearm Suicide Prevention to help neighbors have real conversations, share practical steps like secure storage, and lift up trusted local voices. You’ll build relationships, set up community events, and connect partners so prevention becomes a shared effort. This is not clinical work. It is community organizing that turns listening into local action.
You should apply if:
- You walk into a fire hall, café, or county fair and know how to start real conversations because you’ve lived what others are living.
- You want to help your community face hard truths without shame, and turn quiet concern into shared action.
Key Responsiblities:
- Build and maintain relationships across the region by regularly meeting with local leaders, partners, and community members.
- Help organize one or two community conversations each month in familiar places like fire halls, churches, diners, or fairs.
- Support trusted local voices, including suicide loss survivors, who want to speak up or host small gatherings or info tables.
- Provide short weekly updates on wins, challenges, and what you’re hearing in the community. Be detail oriented in how you plan and follow up.
Required Qualifications:
- Lives in or has strong ties to Monroe, Pike, Wayne, or Carbon Counties.
- Experience working with people in your community, such as through outreach, organizing, volunteer work, or local programs.
- Communicates clearly and respectfully, especially when talking about sensitive issues like guns and suicide.
- Has reliable transportation, a valid driver’s license, and can travel across the region.
- Can work some evenings and weekends when needed.
- Comfortable with email, video calls, and shared documents. Willing to learn new software.
