We had a full house as the CeaseFirePA Education Fund kicked off our PA Safer Communities town hall tour focused on policy action around gun violence prevention. The inaugural event, held in Delaware County, launched a campaign to call on Senate Judiciary Chair Lisa Baker to schedule a hearing on key gun safety bills. More than 40 local residents came out to hear our expert panelists discuss gun violence prevention.

Many Pennsylvanians have questions and concerns around what lawmakers are doing to address the threat of gun violence in their communities. Our town halls are an opportunity for constituents to come out and engage directly on this critical issue facing our Commonwealth and to hold lawmakers accountable who refuse to act on gun violence prevention.

During our tour we will be joined by non-partisan public health experts, law enforcement officials, state legislators, veterans and gun violence prevention advocates to discuss the opportunities to build safer communities through policy reform, and the consequences of opposing life-saving gun safety laws.

Our goal is to build support for legislation that will make Pennsylvania communities safer. At the kickoff event, we called on Sen. Baker to schedule a hearing in the Senate on the historic gun safety bills that passed the PA House with bipartisan support last May.

One attendee was moved by last night’s event, writing: “All the speakers on the panel had important and interesting things to say. It was especially important to me to introduce my grandchildren to the CeaseFirePA movement…This generation is well aware of the threat of gun violence in every part of their lives. I believe the meeting reinforced their belief in the CeaseFirePA cause”.
