New Survey Reveals Scope of Gun Violence’s Severe Impact on Pittsburgh-Area Youth

Among the findings: more than half of youth have lost a family member to the gun violence epidemic. The research, conducted by CeaseFirePA Education Fund and The Greater Pittsburgh Coalition Against Violence, finds that statistics showing the rise in shootings only tell part of the story. For most surveyed youth, the gun violence crisis has them regularly concerned, and many directly impacted.

Today, 19 children and two teachers were killed in Uvalde, Texas in a 90% Hispanic school. It was the 27th school shooting and the 212th mass shooting so far in the 144 days of 2022. Eleven days ago, 10 were murdered at a Black supermarket. In those 11 days, an estimated 22 Pennsylvanians were murdered with firearms. Countless more were injured.
