Senate Judiciary Chairperson Lisa Baker announced this morning that the committee will hold hearings on September 24th and 25th on “Behavioral health, mental health, the second amendment, and other gun issues.”

It is clear Pennsylvania has a serious gun violence problem, including a suicide crisis that is only intensifying. We are hopeful these hearings will provide insight into various solutions for making Pennsylvania safer, and as Senator Baker stated earlier, will be a prelude to action, namely votes on life-saving policies like Extreme Risk Protection Orders.

In 2017, Pennsylvania suffered 1,636 gun deaths. Suicides throughout the state have increased 34% over the past 20 years.

We know many of you contacting Senator Baker regarding ERPO and we thank you. As more details unfold we will keep you up to date.

Please continue to contact your lawmakers and urge them to support HB1075 and SB90.
