Today, CeaseFire Pennsylvania endorsed a slate of state and federal candidates who strongly support gun safety laws for the 2020 elections.

“More than ever, we are seeing the devastating effects that gun violence inflicts on our communities” said Adam Garber, CeaseFire Pennsylvania’s Executive Director. “With the recent deaths of so many children in Philadelphia and Pittsburgh, the vigilante attacks on ordinary citizens peacefully protesting social injustice, and the increased risk of both domestic violence and suicide brought by skyrocketing gun purchases during this pandemic, it’s more apparent than ever that gun safety is on the ballot November 3rd.” In addition to endorsing nine candidates for State Senate and 59 candidates for State House, CeaseFire Pennsylvania endorsed former Vice President Joe Biden for President and Josh Shapiro for PA Attorney General.

CeaseFire Pennsylvania uses a variety of criteria to determine endorsements including voting records for incumbents, candidate questionnaires, discussion with local gun violence prevention organizations, and individual interviews. The organization only endorsed in races with multiple candidates on the ballot in the fall election.

“In the last legislative session, there was not a single vote on life-saving gun safety laws,” finished Garber. “It’s time for the General Assembly to either stand with the majority of Pennsylvanians who support gun safety reforms, or step back so we can elect real leaders who value public safety instead of protecting the gun lobby.” CeaseFire Pennsylvania will be encouraging their supporters to vote on November 3rd, including taking advantage of expanded mail-in voting that begins on September 14th.
