STATEMENT

PHILADELPHIA, PA — Today Governor Wolf announced his administration is adding $15 million in anti-violence grant programs to combat Pennsylvania’s gun violence epidemic. This is in addition to the $30 million already allocated to anti-violence efforts in the state budget, bringing the investment total to $45 million.

CeaseFirePA, the Commonwealth’s leading gun violence prevention advocacy organization, applauds Governor’s Wolf’s allocation of American Rescue Plan funds to the Pennsylvanian Commision on Crimes and Deliquency’s Gun Violence Intervention and Prevention Program.

“More people were murdered with guns in PA in 2020 than any year on record in Pennsylvania. This historic investment will start to change that trend by investing in the community heroes who work tirelessly to staunch the bleeding. I’m thankful Governor Wolf and Senator Hughes are providing more resources to communities desperately in need of evidence-based solutions. Expanding these resources will give more people a fighting chance to survive this slow moving public health crisis. This is a down payment on anti-violence funding we expect the state legislature to expand upon in the upcoming budget process.” said Adam Garber, Executive Director CeaseFirePA Education Fund.
