In the wake of the murder of George Floyd and the resulting protests against the ongoing violence regularly and systematically inflicted upon African-American communities, CeaseFirePA Executive Director Adam Garber issued the following statement:

George Floyd’s death was an unspeakable, yet sadly predictable, tragedy. His death, along with those of Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, Philando Castile, and too many others to count–simply because of the color of their skin–is a permanent stain on our nation. Nor can we ignore the terror many are feeling as President Trump references the Second Amendment as support for mobilizing against the protests taking place across the country. When guns are added to the mix, more people are hurt or killed. That is even more true for the very community that is grieving and demanding action right now.

We are heartbroken. We reaffirm our commitment to listen to, stand with, and—most importantly—lift up, our African American partners to ensure that our Commonwealth, our nation, and our world becomes the equitable and safe place it should be.
