Today, a coalition of 80 local elected officials, community leaders, public health professionals, and faith leaders, as well as members of the veteran, law enforcement, and education communities from across Pennsylvania, sent a letter to Representative Jerry Knowles, Chairman of the PA House Local Government Committee, asking him to schedule a hearing on four gun violence prevention bills that are awaiting action in his committee.
The first Pennsylvania poll on gun violence prevention since Uvalde revealed a deepening commitment to addressing this public health crisis among likely voters. The majority of likely voters (58%) are now more likely to support stronger gun safety laws after the mass shooting.
A week after a mass shooting destroyed celebrations on Philadelphia’s South Street, the Pennsylvania House Judiciary Committee considered life-saving legislation for the first time this session. Unfortunately, four impactful bills were shelved via parliamentary procedure. Read our statement and take action.

Pennsylvanians are living through a slow-moving massacre. For the first time this session, the House Judiciary Committee is considering evidence-based solutions to this crisis. We urge them to support these solutions so a floor vote can happen and we can save lives.

For nearly four years, Pennsylvanians have experienced a slow-moving massacre from gun violence that has taken the lives of more than 6,000 people, all while the legislature did nothing to address the crisis, and even passed legislation to worsen the bloodshed.”
“It’s time our elected officials allow us to be free. Free to party with friends on the weekend. To worship together in peace. To learn without psychologically-damaging active shooter drills. We are not free, because we as a nation live in constant fear. That will only change when our elected officials act.”

Today, 19 children and two teachers were killed in Uvalde, Texas in a 90% Hispanic school. It was the 27th school shooting and the 212th mass shooting so far in the 144 days of 2022. Eleven days ago, 10 were murdered at a Black supermarket. In those 11 days, an estimated 22 Pennsylvanians were murdered with firearms. Countless more were injured.
